Yes, it is hard to get your first book published. It’s very hard. In fact, you should go into writing your first book with the thought that it actually won’t get published.
Why is this?
Well, most people’s first book sucks. It’s sad, but it’s true. And it makes sense. Who gets things right the first time they try it? I mean, remember when you first drove a car? You probably sucked compared to how you drive now (and if you haven’t improved, please get lessons🙀)
Most authors didn’t get published with their first book. The same goes for the second book. Usually by the third or fourth book they start to develop a voice and their own unique style. The practice has been put in and their skills are vastly improving. Some might not even hit their stride until they get to double digits.
It takes time to get good at writing and very few of us are so naturally gifted that we can turn water into wine or a lump of coal into a diamond with our first go. That’s why aspiring authors should never feel bad if their work isn’t shaping up the way they want it to, especially if it’s their first attempt.
It’s not impossible to get your first book published, though it is unlikely. The main thing is to enjoy the process, have fun and learn as much as you can.
