Yes, you can get published without an agent, both through self-publishing and traditional publishing. While it’s quite clear one can self-publish without an agent, it is hazier ground when it comes to traditional publishing.
Authors don’t need an agent when it comes to traditional publishing, however it is beneficial to have one. Sure, if an author doesn’t have an agent it means they won’t have to pay a representation fee. And it also means they can approach publishers directly. But here’s the thing, most big publishers don’t accept unsolicited manuscripts. This reduces the number of people authors can submit to.
But many authors may still be happy with this and if your goal is to just see your book in print and aren’t interested in a career, then you definitely don’t need an agent.
